Exiting and Applying for Graduation
Students are responsible for applying for degree completion in accordance with University deadlines. To be eligible for degree conferral in a given conferral period, students must submit the application for degree completion no later than the semester prior to the intended conferral date.
Specific requirements for each program are contained within the School or Departmental sections of this Catalog as well as on the website under Academic programs at https://www.ucumberlands.edu/academics/graduate.
The University will conduct a final review of each student’s academic record to confirm completion of all program requirements. If a student has met all degree requirements but has not submitted an application for program completion, the University may proceed with degree conferral based on institutional records.
In such cases:
- The student will be notified through their UC email account that all requirements have been met and that no further action is required unless they wish to delay conferral.
- Students who do not wish to have their degree conferred must notify the Office of the Registrar within one (1) week of the notification.
- If no response is received within one week, the degree will be automatically conferred for the conferral period in which all requirements were satisfied and a copy of the diploma will be sent to the address on file.
- In the event that a student needs an address change and the one-week window is missed, the student can contact registrar@ucumberlands.edu for assistance.
All students are required to use their full legal name when registering, applying for degree completion, and in all official University records. Degrees will be awarded under the student’s legal name as recorded by the University.
Please note that applying for program completion does not automatically register you for University Commencement Ceremonies. Please visit https://www.ucumberlands.edu/academics/commencement for instructions on how to register for a ceremony time.
Graduation Commencement Participation
University of the Cumberlands holds commencement ceremonies twice a year: one in May at the end of the Spring semester, and one in December at the end of the Fall semester. These ceremonies are intended to recognize students who will complete all graduation requirements by the end of the corresponding semester. In order to participate in the Graduate Commencement Ceremony, a student is required to fully satisfy all degree and program requirements prior to the date of the event.
